Welcome. It's Time for Leadership

Updated: Jul 30

Hello! My name is Dr. Chase Raymond and thank you for taking the time to visit Time for Leadership. I know there is a multitude of websites out there in the blogosphere that discuss leadership, so the fact that you found your way here to my little corner of the world, makes me that much more grateful.

A little about me...

I have a profound interest in the field of leadership and management, so much so I have three degrees: 2 in leadership (B.S., EdD) and 1 in management (M.S.).

Why leadership matters to me...

If you ask me why I have such strong interest in these two fields, I honestly believe it is because I made an early connection in my personal life and my professional career, that a special relationship exists between the human condition and organizational performance. In other words, if the human condition is operating at unhealthy levels the organization will try desperately to achieve adequate performance. Even worse, the organization will experience increased mistakes and errors, absences, and high turnover.

What about the human condition?

The human condition and the workplace are deeply interconnected. The human condition refers to the universal experiences and challenges that all humans face, such as the need for connection, purpose, and fulfillment. The workplace, on the other hand, is a social environment where individuals come together to achieve a common goal or objective, typically through the exchange of labor for compensation.

The workplace is where people spend a significant portion of their time and it plays a significant role in shaping the human condition. In many ways, the workplace can either enhance or diminish the quality of life of individuals. For instance, a positive work environment that provides opportunities for personal and professional growth can enhance a person's sense of purpose and fulfillment. Conversely, a negative or even a toxic work environment characterized by discrimination, harassment, or exploitation can lead to stress, anxiety, and feelings of despair.

The workplace can also influence a person's social relationships, financial stability, and overall well-being. A fulfilling job can provide a sense of community and social support, while a job that pays poorly or offers little job security can lead to financial insecurity and stress.

Overall, the workplace has a significant impact on the human condition, and it is important for individuals and organizations to recognize and address the ways in which the workplace can affect the well-being and quality of life of workers. And this is where leadership enters into the conversation.

Why leadership should matter to you...

Leaders are essential to the organization because they are called upon like surgical instruments to guide members of a team (or an entire organization) toward accomplishing goals and objectives, or to help usher in much needed organizational change. But goals, objectives, or any sort of desired change for the organization will simply fall flat unless the human condition for every member of our team is positive and healthy. Make no mistake, leadership and effective leaders play a central role in the human condition of an employee.

As leaders, we must understand people, their emotional responses, and what drives them extrinsically and more importantly, what drives them intrinsically. Also, as leaders we need to be aware of what can negatively impact our team members. All of these factors play a crucial role to the human condition at work.
